Suela Mullaj

VIOLIN SOLOIST

One of today’s greatest talents, albanian violin soloist Suela Mullaj, for whom music runs in the family, has established herself in the international arena with her extraordinary virtuosity. At a very young age she moved to Italy at maestro Abbado’s invitation and continued her music studies at the Giuseppe Verdi conservatory in Milan where she graduated cum laude. She specialized at the fiesole music academy with Zynaida Giles, Pavel Vernikov and Ilya Grubert snd in Tel Aviv with Shlomo Mintz.

She has won several international competitions including the special prize at the international violin competition “Rodolfo Lipizer” (1991) and the “Michelangelo Abbado” competition (1995). She has played in the great violin and orchestra concertos: at only 14 years of age she played the Sibelius concerto with the RAI orchestra of Milan, the Tchaikovsky concerto at only 16 with the Regio di Parma theatre, all the Paganini concertos with Europe Chamber Orchestra, concert of Peter Vasks with Berliner symphoniker orchestra, (the Brahms concerto with the Malaga orchestra, the uncut version of the Haydn concertos with the Wiener chamber orchestra, the Bartók concerto with the Oslo symphonic orchestra the Wieniawski concertos with the Seville symphony orchestra, ect.

She is received enthusiastically everywhere by the public and critics and is often invited to the most important concert halls and international festivals including the Salzburg festival, the Ljubljana festival, the Flanders festival, festival “Dei due mondi” (Spoleto, italy), the Mainz festival, the Vienna festival, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Berliner Philarmonie, the Rudolfium in Prague, the Lingotto theatre in Turin, the Verdi hall of the Milan conservatory. She has been conducted by great international conductors like Peter Maag, Vladimir Delman, Florian Merz, Günther Neuhold, Mario Rossi, Massimo Palumbo, Thomas Kalb, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Ernst Theis, just to name a few.

She has recorded numerous cds with the rca label and in 1998 won the Swiss radio award for best album of the year. She has also recorded with the chandos, arts and dynamic labels and has received enthusiastic response from magazines like gramophone, cd classic, musica & dischi, phonoforum and bbc music magazine.

In 2000 she founded the prestigious United Europe chamber orchestra with conductor and pianist Massimo Palumbo, where she has performed  as a soloist in the permanent season at the Verdi hall of the g. Verdi conservatory in Milan and in numerous european tours with a repertoire which ranges from baroque to the great romantic and modern concertos.

On 30 june 2008 she was invited to New York’s carnegie hall along with maestro Massimo Palumbo where she was received with enormous public and critical success. In 2009 she was the soloist at the Smetana Theatre and the Prague Rudolfinum and was conducted by maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy at the Verdi hall of Milan’s conservatory.

In the summer of 2009 she was the star of a greatly successful tour at festivals in Ljubljana, Ohrid (Macedonia) and Emilia Romagna.

Her artistic versatility led her to founding the Ueco Foundation academy, a prestigious focal point for musical training to support and develop teaching/concerts involving young talents which she selected personally, giving rise to Ueco Junior. She has been the artistic director of “summer in music” since 2008.

She plays a “Fernandus Galliano 1761” violin kindly granted by the Pro.Canale Foundation and a 1732 Guarnieri del Gesù.
